How to Draw a Horse – a step by step horse drawing tutorial for kids and beginners. Learn to draw a cartoon style horse in no time.

This horse drawing lesson will help you draw a simple cartoon style horse in 9 simple steps (it’s a no-fail one and you can even further simplify it, we’ll get to that in the instructions part). Most of our tutorials have 6 steps, but this one, just like the rose drawing tutorial, required a bit more steps to make the process clear and easy to follow.

Step by Step Horse Drawing Tutorial

Step 1
Start by drawing the head. If you want a super-easy way of drawing it, just draw a U shape, the horse drawing will still look more than cute. You can also make the shape as we did, this will bring you one step closer to one day mastering a realistic horse.

Start by drawing ahead

Step 2
Draw the ears.
Step 3
Draw the neck.
Step 4
Let's draw the facial features – the eyes, nostrils, and mouth.

Step 5
Draw the legs. Start with the front leg, next to the neckline, just a bit above and draw a line downwards, then to the right and back again. Next comes the hind leg, you can draw it in the same way as you did the front one or, you can make it a bit more realistic as we did in this step.

Step 6
Draw the back. Start by the neck arch, go down just a bit and then up again and again as if you would want to write a number two, wrap it up by connecting the back to the leg. Also draw the belly, draw a line from one leg to the other.

Draw the back and belly of the horse

Step 7
In a similar manner as you did the first pair of legs, also draw the legs in the background.

Step 8
Almost there! Draw the lines at the bottom of the legs to make the hooves. Draw the tail – start at the top, make a loop as you would want to make a loose number 2 (or S backward 😉 and find your way back to the top.

Step 9
Last step and you are done unless you want to color in your horse. Draw the mane. Start by the ear and zig-zag your way to the back. Also, draw a bit of mane between the ears. All done! You have just learned how to draw a horse. Pretty sweet isn’t it?
